Weekly Update: November 29th to December (what!) 3rd

Hello Grade Three Community,

Thank you to all those who came in today to see what an awesome job your children did on building their structures. I'm amazed by this classes creativity and attention to detail. They did a wonderful job! If you haven't had a chance to see them yet, they will be kept intact until Wednesday. I wil also post pictures of the completed structures.

We're getting close to the Christmas performance, which is December 9th at 7pm. We ask that all students be at the portable for 6:30 pm in their FULL winter uniform (cardigans and sweaters included). If you are missing the performance, could you please let me know ahead of time. Thank you.

Lastly, this Friday report cards go home. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's report card, please either email or write a comment in the agenda of a time we could meet to discuss your child's progress. Your children are awesome and should be very proud of how hard they have worked so far this year. Its been so great to see them accept challenges with such enthusiasm and determination. I appreciate them all!

Have a wonderful last few days of November,

Mrs. Kullman

Project Build Delayed

Hello Students and Parents,

Due to the snowy weather today, Project Build's finale will be postponed to Monday at 1:15. I hope you all can make it. If that doesn't work, please feel free to drop by the classroom after school on Monday to check out the student's structures.

Cold Weather Alert!

Hello Parents,

Wow, what weather we've been having! Just a reminder to please send your child to school with the proper outdoor clothing. As a class we had a chat about this yesterday, and I just wanted to include you into the conversation. Scarves, multiple pairs of mittens, hats, and warm boots are essential to survive this cold snap.

Another reminder to be made is that we are now allowing students to wear boots to school and then change into their indoor black shoes in the morning. If you haven't already, please make sure you send your child to school with boots. They can keep them throughout the week in their locker if that would be easier.

Thank you!

Flashcards AND Project Build

A few business items:

Flashcard: Today your child took home flashcards for addition and subtraction. Beginning early December we will be starting addition and subtraction. The flashcards I sent home will help students practice their 1-18 facts. My expectation is that you will assist your child in the learning of these basic facts. My experience has been those students who have a good understanding of their basic facts are then able to show proficiency in 2, 3 and 4-digit addition and subtraction. Thank you for helping your child practice their math skills.

Project Build: We as a class are very excited for this week. The students have planned out their structures, they have worked to answer structural questions, and now are ready to begin the building process. THIS Thursday and Friday we will be building our structures. Please send in any household recycled items from Monday to Wednesday. During the after on FRIDAY we will be presenting our structures to the class, and I would like to extend an invitation to you. If you are interested in seeing the awesome structures that your child has created, please feel free to come at 2:00 pm. At that time the students will give a brief explanation of their structures and answering any questions the audience might have. I'm excited for you to see all the hard work and effort your child have put into this project.

Attention Parents!

Hello Parents and Students of Elementary,

With winter approaching and the weather turning colder and colder, we in Elementary have been discussing student attire. We would like to encourage all parents to purchase a WRCA sweater, if you haven't already. When you do, please write your child's first and last name on the inside tag. These sweaters do not only look great, but they are very warm and, well, mandatory uniform at WRCA! A new policy that we are implementing is students are encouraged to keep a pair of running shoes in their classroom indoor wear. Boots can be worn to school and during outside break times. Before going outside for recess or lunch students will be given the opportunity to change into their boots. This policy will help keep students' feet warm and will keep our classrooms cleaner.

I also want to ask the parent community for their support in helping keep our children safe at lunch recess. We are in need of more parent supervisors from 12:00 to 12:45. Thank you to many of you who have faithfully shown up and supervised our children.

Sincerely,

The Elementary Staff of WRCA
